Dr. Richard Buckley is the first orthopaedic trauma-trained surgeon in Calgary. For more than 30 years he continues to be a passionate leader in trauma research, surgical education, and mentorship within the University of Calgary, the Canadian Orthopaedic Trauma Society, and the AO Foundation. His unwavering dedication has helped establish Calgary's legacy as a global leader in clinical and academic excellence.

What is Giving Day?
Launched in 2017, UCalgary Giving Day has raised more than $15 million for an array of initiatives across the University of Calgary, including student awards, research, teaching and learning, and more. Eligible gifts made during the campaign are matched - dollar for dollar, up to $2,500 per gift, per fund -while matching funds last. In addition to the main gift-match, UCalgary is offering incentives this year for alumni, faculty and staff, and monthly donors.

This year is the UofCs 60th anniversary - and Dr. Buckley has been a part of this institution’s history as both an alumnus and faculty for more than half of that time! Fun fact: he has taught trauma to most of the orthopedists in the city of Calgary when they were residents!
