Fellowship Program
As orthopaedic trauma educators, we seize and create opportunities to share our knowledge.
FELLOWSHIP TRAINING
Foothills Orthopaedic Trauma Research & Education Foundation (FOSTER)
Our AO Accredited Fellowship Centre is renowned internationally. Led by our Fellowship Director, Dr. Robert Korley, this one-year fellowship training program aims to produce skilled Orthopaedic Trauma surgeons who are adept at leading multi- disciplinary teams. Training focuses on pre-operative evaluation, surgical management, post-operative care, and rehabilitation after injury. The fellowship emphasizes the importance of a multi-disciplinary approach, preparing the fellows to implement these practices in their future institutions. Scholarly education is a critical component, with fellows actively engaging in research projects and critical appraisal of current literature.
Interested in applying for our fellowship training program? We will be open to new applications soon. In the meantime, feel free to contact us for more information as we develop this section of the website.
CANADIAN ORTHOPAEDIC RESIDENT FORUM
The Canadian Orthopaedic Resident Forum, established in 2000 and held annually in Calgary, is recognized as the second largest gathering of orthopaedic surgeons and residents in Canada. It was founded by Dr. Richard Buckley, who also serves as its chair. The forum serves as a significant platform for the exchange of knowledge, advancements in orthopaedic practices, and networking among professionals in the field.

IMMERSIVE SURGICAL TRAINING
In order to create novel educational opportunities for practicing surgical techniques in a reproducible and low-stakes environment, Dr. Ryan Martin, Chief Medical Officer for Tactile Orthopaedics, has developed composite knee and shoulder models. These realistic models have been used for AO Sports courses all over the world, with several additional models on the horizon for educational implementation.
SCHOLARLY EDUCATION
Dr. Prism Schneider is the founder of the Calgary Orthopaedic Resident Research Group (CORRG), a longitudinal and team-based approach to scholarly education. This novel approach fosters learning the process of research through completing research projects as a group. Throughout this 5-year curriculum, each surgical resident plays a different role for every research study, thereby learning through a stepwise approach how to conduct ethical research.
